86-89 Integra engine into 87 Crx SI
I did a search on here and didn't come up with much of anything helpful. I just picked up a 87 SI for $500 and everything is great on the car except some rusting (not unusual). The car has 250K miles on it and runs like its new! My question is (well I have two)
1:To swap the Integra motor in what parts are needed and what modifications are needed? Or using a browntop ZC how much more difficult is it?
2:The car has a grinding sound in the brakes like the pads are shot but the guy said he just had the rotors turned and new pads put on. I felt the rotor and it felt kind of grooved but I couldn't really tell much without having to take the wheel off. Could the rear drums brakes make this noise? If so how hard is it to replace them?
I think that was more like 3 questions but oh well
Thanks in advance for any help

not that hard of a swap - you will need transmission, axles, knuckles/hubs and shift linkage from the 86-89 Integra - all of that just bolts into your Si - as for the engine, if you plan to use the Integra D16A1, stick with the 86-87 as it is more compatible with your Si - the 88-89 Integras use a different distributor and will give you a little more problem with wiring - get the ECU that matches the engine - 86-87 ECU is different from 88-89 - finding a D16A1 that is in good condition is going to be more of a problem, as most of them are used up and require rebuild - i would just get a 1st gen (brown valve cover) ZC engine, which also just bolts right in - it is basically the same as the D16A1, except it is 130hp where the 86-87 D16A1 is 112hp - as for the brakes, yes, the rears can make that noise - they are not difficult to change - go to :http://www.redpepperracing.com/forum...T&f=16&t=2562& for more info on the 1st gen CRX - they also have service manuals on there that should show you how to do the brakes

I have never seen a browntop ZC listed for sale by any major company, but you can probably have one special ordered... unless you get lucky and find a company with one hidden away in their warehouse.

Is that what I would be looking for? And as for price...what is a decent going rate for one?
