Default Dead CD player 89 Civic

Just bought an 89 DX hatch with factory am/fm cassette plus factory CD. The CD player sucks the CD in but spits it right back out...doesn't matter if it's an original or a burned CD.
Anyone have any experience working with these? Are they fixable? Is there an aftermarket replacement? The radio/cassette player works fine.

I wasn't aware that Honda had a factory CD player in '89....

All that aside, general thoughts include making sure that the lense of the player is clean (there are several cleaners available). If the player loads a disk and doesn't "see" it correctly, it will spit it out. Also, there are small rubber wheels that it uses to pull the CD in (and push it out). If one of them gets worn, they can get confused as well.

Usually, best bet on a player that age is to just replace with an aftermarket.

They have a good selection and all their radios come with a mounting kit.

It's an interesting configuration...the am/fm cassette deck is all in one, but the cd player is a separate unit mounted underneath. Probably one of the earliest factory CD units. It's clearly marked Honda CD though, and when you insert the cd the radio switches off (until it spits the CD back out, then the radio comes back on).
I guess what I'm really wondering is how to integrate a new aftermarket cd deck into the system, because I have a lot of my vinyl recorded on cassettes and would prefer to keep the cassette deck in the car.
May have to just take the unit out and have a look at how it's hooked into the rest of the system.

What is the size of the CD player? roughly the same size as the radio? If so, look on Crutchfield's site, they stock radios that are double DIN sized ( http://tinyurl.com/3besa ) that might fit. It would let you keep the cassette and CD player.

Oh yeah... if you have a digital camera, post a pic... I'd love to see it.

This is my 1st Honda so I'm not positive on this...but it sure looks to be bone stock. The rest of the car is. It's all mounted right in the center console. The radio/cassette is one unit, and the cd player is a separate unit mounted in the console below the deck. From the looks of the car I would be surprised if previous owners went to the trouble, rather than just replacing the cassette deck with a cd deck.
I'll try to get a digital image of it to post

I've never heard of a stock CD player in an '89. I don't think Integras even had the option for a few years after that.

My guess would be that someone installed a CD player from a new car, as previously mentioned. Do you have a digital camera?

ok,how is it mounted?it is in a din compartment right? im thinking you have the acura center consol swap im planning on doing because the stock consol
only has enough room for the heating/ac and directly below it is the radio din.maybe one is fake for thieves ok ....lets see some pics, its really starting to make me wonder.

I think they did have early cd add-ons as a factory accessory. I seen a few in my honda days before I moved to the acura side. Teg's had the add-on too.

I wouldn't go buying a new one from crutchfields, just pull it out and take it to a radio repair shop, we do it all the time at the dealer for stock audio stuff. If you live in CA. i have a list of places from my parts dept. Most are less than 75 bucks to repair.
