hi pps!
I'm new to this stuff so bear wit me!!!
I just need to ask a few questions an I thought who better to ask than u guys......
My boyfriend is interested in swapping a type R engine into his '88 CRX, he doesn't really know that much about what he's getting himself into, his only goal- make it fast.
He recently found that praticular engine for about 4000CD....is that a good deal?
I need the who, what , where , why and how.
thanks a million

4000 can?? thats cheap. be sure that it's a quality engine if its that cheap. i'd check the mileage, and see if you can find customers that already bought from this source, and see if they're satisfied.

as for swapping a type r engine into his crx, it would be simliar to any other "b" engine into a 88 crx. is it an si, dx, hf??? btw, there is a thread near the top called "post engine swap questions". i'm sure most, if not all, of the info is covered in there. also, try using the search button to get a general idea of what needs to be done, and if there is any specific question that you have, we can answer it

If he's not fimiliar with Hondas, he's going to have fun dropping an OBD-II hydrolic transaxle B-series into an OBD-O cable transaxle CRX body.

Can he not just suffice with an easier swap (like an OBD-0 B18A or B16A) for now until he learns more on the subject? Wanting to drop a "Type R" motor into anything is a red flag (noob alert!) for me. He probably doesn't realize there are three readily availible "Type R" engines (B16B JDM Civic Type R, B18C JDM Integra Type R, and B18C5 USDM Integra Type R) each one different.
