Are you getting different blink codes from the ECU then? If so, which code(s) is it showing?

Exactly, time to check the codes.

Not sure about the '98, but on my '89 it is under the passenger side kick panel (floor actualy) and it has an LED on it that will begin to blink a code when the check engine light comes on. The next time the light comes on, pull over (leave the engine running) and take a look. It will give you some idea why the ECU decided to turn the check engine light on.

You don't need to wait for the check engine light to come on, the ECU will remember the codes until it is reset. Pull the kickpanel, read the blinky light, and tell us what numbers it gives you. If the CEL comes on the ECU will be blinking a code.

OK, blue connectors have nothing to do with anything.

Find the ECU. It is a gold coloured box with a few big plugs going into it, behind the passenger's kick panel. It will have a blinky light on top. Each time it blinks long, add ten. Each time it blinks short, add one. Example: long blink, short blink, short blink = 10 + 1 + 1 = code 12. It may show multiple codes.

OK... visual aids time... pull back the carpet on the passenger side and look for the ECU LED...
