1991 Honda Civic Dx hatchback
Hello People,
I have a 1991 honda civic hatchback with a plain old 15 litre sluggish motor in it. I want a motor that i can swap in for more horses and alot of high end. I would also like a tranny with longer gear ratios for highway use. Someone told me to put a type R motor in it and go with a cable tranny, but before I put money in the wrong place and consider it wasted, I would like some insight from some people that are pretty good with this type of stuff. I would like a motor that can shed out at least 170 hp to the wheels.

DX has really long gear ratios. There isn't another 5spd I can think of which has longer gears than the DX. Unless maybe the HF, I don't know if that is 4 or 5 spd though.
The first question is, how much do you want to spend...
Where in Baltimore are you from?

170 at the wheels and long gear ratios:thinking:
If your putting down 170 at the wheels, you most likely wont get the best gas mpg anyways, so long gear ratios wont do ya that much good.
i say b18c with all the goodies[i/h/e/ecu]:dunno:

Thanks alot people, I was adviced to put a type R motor in the damn thing, but I would be guaranteed 170hp to the wheels. I might go with a B18c3 or B18c5 motor and go from there. I reside i in baltimore by fellspoint. I would like some advice on what kind of exhaust to get, not too crazy about sound effects and all that. I want it stealth and performance too

yah and 160 is pushing it. plus b18c isnt cheap, id suggest b16 and build from there, i'll be surprised how quick the car will actually be and b16s have great aftermarket goodies, if u want to drop an engine in and then leave it alone then id say type r is ur best bet, dont bother playing with an h22 more work then its worth, and not much better than a b18c, unless u plan on making over 300 hp with a serious h22 turbo setup which i have seen done. and is amazing but is no longer daily drivable.

goodies are intake, header, exhaust <-- those are usually the first three bolton mods to be done.
after that, you may want an ecu, cams, head swap, etc.
your project depends on your budget. i personally would get a b18c and work from there.
if i was on a tighter budget, i'd opt for a turbo zc or something.
