Given a 17% drivetrain loss, 170 wheel horsepower is around 205 flywheel horsepower.
A 170 wheel horsepower CRX is a fairly fast car. You may want to set your sights on something a little more tame for now, like the previously mentioned B16A. It is much cheaper and still makes the car scoot pretty well.
Long gear ratios on a non-turbo Honda engine is a bad idea. Longer gearing makes the car feel slower, because it is. On high reving engines, short gearing is nessicary to keep the engine in the powerband, if the gears are to long it will fall to low and bog.
