Default '99 Acura TL problem

My TL has been exibiting some troubling behavior recently and before I take it to the dealer and get reamed I'd like to know if anyone has had a similar problem and what the diagnosis and repair costs might be. When I accelerate quickly from forty or so to highway speeds sometimes the car does not shift smoothly. I will seem to hesitate and the shift with a noticeable jerk. I can't believe this is not causing stress on the drive train. It doesn't seem to happen or I don't recall feeling it if I accelerate slowly or decelarate.

I know there was occasional problems with both the 4 speed auto found on accord v6's and 1st gen CL's, and the 5 speed auto found on 2nd gen TL's and CL's.

The jerk you are feeling is probably your tranny downshifting from overdrive to 2nd gear. Did you say you never felt that before and you just never realized it before. Depends how heavy the "jerk" is on your car, it could be normal. Any other signs of weird tranny problems?

This jerking just started recently and seems to happen on fast accelaration. I have noticed it once decelarating coming over the hill on 17. It can happen from a standing start or accelaration from lower speeds. It seems to happen somewhere around 35 or 40 MPH. The car seems to accelarate then kind of hesitate then jerk, rpms drop and comes up to speed rapidly. It almost feels like it misses a gear or switches back down then up again. It's certainly not the smoothe throaty accelaration i'm used to.

If it is something you are not used to, then you should have the dealer check it out. It sounds like it is the tranny, I mean, what else could it be? When was your last time you changed your tranny fluid? It could also mean a bad torque converter.

Just an update, albeit a little tardy. Thanks for the advice. I took it to the dealer after a call to my regular mechanic indicated it would be 6k to replace. Acura agreed to replace the tranny under a "good will" warranty at no cost since my warranty had just expired 5k miles ago. Now that I read here about the warranty extension I not so sure it was a "good will" warranty extension or the fact they had planned to do it anyway thirty days later. I guess mine wasn't the only one having problems. Ya Think. I'd be curious as to how prevalent this problem is/was. While I'm satisfied with the outcome I'm wondering if they've corrected the problem or just remanufacuring the transmissions and replacing them when neccesary and what that says about the long term life of the vehicle.

Unless you have 105k on the clock, they didnt goodwill anything as all 1999Tl's were included in the transmission warranty extension to 7 years/100k. I hate when people do what they are supposed to and then act like they are doing you a huge favor.
