o2 Sensor
I changed my o2 sensor today (the downstream one) and i went and got my CEL code cleared and the light came back on in five seconds. Im confused because its a brand new o2 sensor. The code is P0141 (i know it like the back of my hand now). It says that bank 1 sensor 2 is malfunctioning. All research points to a faulty o2 sensor but its brand new so why am I still getting the code even after it has cleared? Anyone have clue?
I replaced the wrong o2 sensor
The Code:
P0141 (Heated Oxygen Sensor bank 1 Sensor 2) = Downstream Sensor and I changed the Upstream sensor with a downstream sensor so I'm going to have to replace both sensors since Ive already spliced and touched the tip of the old upstream sensor.
A short no pic DIY for those 3.0CLs for those who will be following in my path as these sensors are pretty common to have to replace.
1.) Get code: Code P0135 is upstream. Code P0141 is downstream the one in the Catalytic Converter located in about the middle of the car. I wish someone would have briefed me on this location. Do not let anyone fool you Bank 1 refers to which muffler it is located on such as a dual exhaust system and 3.0CLs are not dual exhaust systems. So you will always have a bank 1 code...what you need to know is if it is sensor 1 or 2.
2.) Get the o2 sensor...I prefer a Bosch at Advance Auto Parts...Advance is a step up from AutoZone and a step down from Napa in class...its always good to meet in the middle accept when you need to go at 10:00 at night and the 24 hour AutoZone is your only hope...
3.) Replace the o2 sensor and do not touch the tip...its like touching the tip of a headlight bulb it will burn out because of the oils on your hand...If you bought one of those universals like i did it will take you a little longer but i think its worth my $60 to splice a wire...
Conclusion:
Go get your CEL light reset at Advance and see if the light comes back on...if it does you did something wrong or a lemon o2 sensor or a faulty wire posibly...
