Default 2001 Acura CL brake question

I am the proud new owner of a Acura CL with 76,000. I love this car!! now its not the s model but it has all i could possibly need.

It looks like it needs a brake job but when I priced that at the acura dealer it was going to hurt!! So I was thinking of going ith aftermarket rotors and Acura pads. I will save over $200 if I buy the high end United rotors that NAPA sells.

I first considered having the rotors turned but then thought with 76,000 and the cost not being that much more I'd probably just spring for new rotors I want the car to operate to factory spec and would am wondering what opinions people have on this?

Are there better brands of rotors to look for?

Napa also has a ceramic pad they recommend for this is that a good idea ?

I dont think the OEM is ceramic?

PS: Great forum its my first post and I look forward to learning a great deal out here.

Thanks for your help

If your rotors are still in good condition, why replace it? Just get a set of nice pads. I recommend Axxis Metal Master.

my thought process on replacing the rotors and putting new pads on is that ith a pulsation I know i at least woul have to get the rotors turned als thge brake fluid needs to be flushed as its a bit dirty and the place I bought the car (a little indipendent not a n acura dealer) has agreed to charge me their cost on parts and $80 labor for the whole job.

So I figure since I can get a pretty good deal on geting it done (I don't have the expertise or facilities to do it myself) I should take advantage of that.

So then I'm trying to choose the best parts to do it with.

What are the charachteristics of the Axxis metalmaster your recommending?

Any opinion on the differences in rotors?

I have yet to see(or hear) an aftermarket pad as quiet as a factory honda pad.

The Axxis metal master pads bites on the rotors harder, thus, improving the stopping distance. I changed my pads to Axxis when my car only had a few thousand miles on it and I never had a problem with warping or any issues at all. The noise level is the same, no squealing....just improved brake performance. At 40K miles and 5 years later, I finally changed to some aftermarket rotors not because my stock rotors were bad, but because I got a great deal on them and I liked the look (cross drilled and slotted). I forgot which brand of rotors I got but I've had it for about a year now and no problems yet.

Those do sound like nice rotors. I was thinking since mine warped that there could be a heat issue and sloted rotors could improve that and prevent that from happening again but I have no way of knowing how the car had been driven in the past.

do yo know a good resorurce to get those pads?

i checked several online sources doing a google search for these pads and all had a listing for 1st generation CL's but none for second generation. Keep looking or are they not made for second generation CL's?
