Hey i was just wondering how your system install is coming? Do you have it all installed yet? I also have a questions about horns. Do you think i can use my 5 band parametric eq or do i need like a 15 or 30 band ? Im thinking i probably would need atleast a 15 band with a set of cd-1e's. D you have any suggestions for a good cheap eq?

It's going SLOW!!!! Very slow. Once again, I'm considering changing vehicles...fitting that kind of equipment in a civic is a royal pain.

Right now I'm running just the horns and mids. I'm using a small crossfire crossover and an old Punch 4020. The mids are in teh doors.

A five band parametric should be plenty to clean up almost any system. It may not be as versatile as a 30 band graphic, but for a well installed system you should be just fine. I'm running mine with no eq, nothing, and they sound great. Having lots of eq is a myth that dates back to when guys first started putting in horns that really were not made for cars.

If you have the extra channels of power and crossover...go for the CD1 Pros. But if you just want to try horns for little money, the CD1e's can work well....but you will notice a big jump in performance when you step up.

If you are that convinced that you need EQ....AudioControl EQT's, PG EQ232, 230, 215, 215ix, and PPI DEQ230 eq's can be found for some great prices over on ebay. The crossfire rack mount EQ's are good, but I would never EVER wish rack mount processors on anyone. Out of those, I'd consider the PPI the best. It's not as tunable as the others (the others are all dual mono units) but it's small, and being able to tune from the seat is SO much better then having to go from the drivers seat, to the trunk and back again. If I had to do it all over again, I'd loose the ID processors, and arc amps and probably go all Zapco.

Yeah i was looking at a phoenix gold eq 215 ix or an audio control eqx if i could an eq and x over all in one. I just kinda want to be able to control both sides independtly cause drivers side are way off axis while the passengers side is almost on axis. Im just kicking around ideas right now or maybe i just can't set the damn eq right who knows. I think im going to use the 4 channel for the mids and bridge the rears to a single ed12k while the arc will run just the highs in the alpine set. I wish i could do kicks but with a manual its not easy to keep the dead pedal and get the sound i want.

if you are going to do horns, and you are going to buy an active crossover I would make sure it does two things

1. Highpass points above 1kHz
2. Steep slopes (-18 or -24 dB/octave)

yeah i would prefer 24 db/ oct even with the speakers i have now. I have 12 db set at 80hz and i have to either lower the sub x over on the amp or raise the x over slightly on the component amp to make it sound good to me.
