Audio System...
Hi all, new to this forum and new to this subject as well. Just got a 2000 GS teg.
Need some expert opinions on this subject. I know I know... this subject is all over the forum, but I need the answers ... thx for help.
Well...I have stock system which the sound is not very good. No bass at all
I'm planning upgrade the head unit which brand you guys recommend? Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer? Model no.? Is it hard swap out the old unit?
I'm also planning to take the front speakers out. Is it hard to do it myself? Any instruction? Which brand is good? I saw some infinity 61/2 one on ebay. Those any good? Any recommend? Oh, do I need that crossover unit(see...I'm very new)?
I don't think I will put the sub in coz I'm not a heavy bass listener. If that's the case, will the component speakers take care that range?
Do I need amp for the front component speakers then? Which brand? How do I wire them? Instruction will appreciate.
Is it necessary to re-wire between the head unit and speakers? Or stock wiring is good enough? What's your recommendation?
Where to buy online is good besides ebay?
Well, that's about it for now... thanks for all your valuable opinions.

Get a pioneer head unit, I used to sell them, they are really good quality and affordable. For speakers, if you are going to run them off the head unit, get four 6.5" 3-way pioneer 160 watt speakers.
If you want, you can go with pioneer 6.5" component speakers in the front, they sound really good and you can run them the same as any other speaker, right off your head unit. It is not hard to put in speakers or a head unit if you have patience. If you want the best sound, get a 4-channel amp and some really good speakers like MB quarts or something.

I have some infinity kappas 5.25s. Used to have them in my truck. If you want quality, go top end like I did. If you just want bass, go toward something like pioneer or kenwood. The infinities sound real crisp with really nice highs if you have a good headunit (I had mine hooked up to a pioneer MP3 player). Sounded great. But didnt produce very much bass. I didnt have them hooked up to an amp though, and they probably would have sounded even better with another 30-50 watts of power.

- remove the cap under the e-brake. remove the 2 screws.
-remove one screw from each rear corner of the lower console and remove
-remove the ashtray and 2 screws from the rear of that area
-unsnap the housing and unplug the connectors and remove the housing, remove the shifter and unsnap the trim piece
-remove screw from each rear corner of the upper console and 2 screws from below the radio opening
-remove the console bezel
-remove the screws holding the radio

brands will depend on the budget and if you are going to use an external amp or the amp from the HU. you need a crossover if you are using a component set, which will be included in the set.

i'm planning to spend around usd 300 on the deck. Any good recommend?
For the speaker, how about the one from ebay "INFINITY REFERENCE 605CS"? I don't really know how to read the spec.
I'd like to have the sub, but I often use the trunk space and fold down the seat for extra room.
If I will buy a pioneer head unit around 300 with pair of component speakers around 100. What's your opinion to get the best out of it?
Thanks again for all the replies.

actually pioneer cd player with infinity speakers is a nice setup. As for a sub, if you're looking for something powerful the for the price, check out www.adireaudio.com . The shiva subwoofer is great for the price. Plus it looksl like crap, so theft is no big issue.

I like the sub that will offer more bass but I need the extra room at the back. So my option is down to the HU and component speakers. I'm trying DIY for HU and speakers and my budget is under 500 for both items. So how do I get the best quality out of the $$?

Actually, if you're doing the HU yourself, there's a much easier way. Get a 8mm swivel socket (sears has it for about 7 bucks), a 6 inch extension and ratchet. Lie down in the pass. seat floorboard with a light and look up behind the console towards the radio, you'll see the mount screws. Just back those out and the radio pulls right out, now just get a mount kit and wire harness. Makes it much easier with those. No need to remove half the car.
As for the front speakers, if you try to pry off the grills on a 00 teg, you're going to break them. You'll need to remove the door panel to get to them. Just remove the screw from the door handle, slide forward to get it out, unplug the power lock and unhook the rod. Then remove the screw from the door handle pull and remove that. There's one push clip in the upper right to pop out, then remove the mirror trim piece on the top. The rest of the panel is held in with clips, gently pull starting at the top right and work your way around, slide the panel up (window needs to be down) and unplug, you're done.

Any site that has pics and instruction on the deck installation? Also, speaker installation as well?
I'm think about this cd/mp3 HU - Pioneer DEH-P750MP
with INFINITY REFERENCE 605CS component speakers.
Any suggestion?
