well your ecu must need no power to do what ever you are doing. Are you trying to cut power to the ecu then turn the switch on, causing it to reset?

Well that's why. The switch needs power to turn on the light, but its when power is disconnected that the ecu resets.

You can get a relay hook up pin 85 to the wire coming from the switch, pin 87a to the ecu. pin 30 to constant power and 86 to ground. Then the switch will light up when there is no power at the ecu.

so...let me get this straight...

<b>85 - wire from which terminal on the switch?</b>
87a (mine only says 87) - ecu wire
86 - gound connection
30 - constant 12v power

just need a little clarification on where to connect to switch. so, there is only one wire connected to the switch?

85 goes the the terminal on the switch that used to go to the ecu.
there should be an 87 a and an 87. If you hook it to 87 it will come on the opposite of when you want it to.

hm... i got an auto relay from radio shack. just 85, 86, 87, and 30/50

I have never seen one like that. you need one that has 85 86 30 87A and it has an 87 on it that you won't use.
