just bought 2 12" MTX 8000's and am about to get 2 MTX Thunder81000D amps.

I read that 0 guage wire is best with the amp choice.

I was wondering what brand wire you all recommend, any accessories, setup suggestions, etc.

was looking to go moster cable set up (friend has it), but i dont know yet.

0 gauge is very expensive and a bit overkill of you ask me. 4 gauge would be more than enough. As for brand, its pretty much all the same. But if you want me to throw out name brands, then how about: Phoneix Gold, Stinger, Rockford, Streetwires, etc...

hm...amp is 500-600w (500, but everyone says they are underrated) and speaker is 400rms/1000max.

does this mean i have to get better speaker terminal for my custom box then say....one at RadioShack?

i like monster to. but o guage is over kill. a starter cable on a 24 volt system isn't that big so i think your amp should do fine with 4 or so. you can make up your own wiring kit cheaper and with the same effect as high dollar one. just go to an auto or electical store and piece your set together, the only thing i really stress using a high dollar kit on is the rca cables

I agree...don't go too crazy on the power wiring itself. You definitely want to invest most of your money on your signal cables.

Well, it really depends on what subs you have....lets assume that you are running each amp at 2 ohm mono....

That means 1500W @ 14.4 V, now, let's assume that you have 60% efficiency - a bit conservative for a Class D amp, but conservative is good.

Now that's two amps = 3000W * 1.60 = 4800W of total draw

4800W / 14.4V = 333.3A of total draw!!!!!

Now you take out your little chart and check to see that 0/1 ga is good for 300A up to 15ft with a voltage drop of 0.5V.

Now I also checked the owners manual, and they recommend a 150A fuse per amp...so that's a total draw of up to 150A....

This is a SERIOUS amp. It also allows direct connection of 0/1.

What you will need is a 0/1 fuse holder or circuit breaker near the battery. The amps have no internal fuse, so you will have to fuse close to each amp as well, and run 0/1 ga to them. That is going to be expensive. If you want some of the cheaper 0/1 around, try sounddomain for Stinger Pro Series, or knuknoceptz.com.

So guys, telling this guy to run 4 ga, even one run to each amp is unsafe and won't work...do the simple math on this one!!!!

I would really stop and consider if you really want to run this much power in your car. This is going to put some EXTREME demands on any charging system (if you want to bump these alot) and especially on any honda charging system. Even oneof these amps is a current hog. You will have sever dimming problems.

Now IF you dropped to running these at 4 ohm mono, or one amp at 2 ohm, that's a total draw of approximately 150A....you can squeak by with 4ga, but Iwould still go with 0/1 ga to be safe.

i'll have to run 'em at 4ohm. i have mtx 8000's (12s) at the moment. got 2 for 200$ (usually 250 a peice) brand new from a friend at an audio shop. (owes me money)

i plan on geting either geting a new alternator or cap.

How many "1 Farad 20V / 24V capacitor" should i get? would just one be effecient?

Generally, its 1 farad cap for every 1000 watts.
