Default 1990 Accord EX 2 Dr

Ok, i tried to do a search on this, but found nothing. Does anyone know what size are the front speakers in my type of car? I went to crutchfield.com, and they said that it was 5", I hope that's not right. thanks!

Crutchfield is correct. They are a 5" speaker... and no, a 5 1/4 will not fit. A 4 will, but leaves a gap, so a plate needs to be fabricated to close the openings.

You can go to a junk yard or www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and get the LX speaker mounts... they accept 6 1/2's.

Edit: Here is a link to honda automotive parts, this shows the speaker brackets used in your car... the top one (#16, 18) is the box/speaker assembly in your EX, #1 is the bracket for an LX, these are what you'd want to be able to put 6 1/2" speakers in the doors.

So you're saying that i can get a LX bracket, and replace the one in my car, so that i can put a 6-1/2" speaker?

Also, in the link that you sent me of the diagram. Is the Illustration #1 the piece that i need to get to allow me to install 6-1/2" speakers up front? Thanks!

you are correct... in both questions.

I just suggest this as there are very few 5" speakers out there... a 6 1/2 gives you plenty of options... plus you didnt seem too thrilled that there are only 5's up front.

OK, i ordered those pieces. Now, what all do i need to do to install them. I know that i need to take the door panel off. Do i need to remove the existing 5" bracket? Thanks so much for you help!

yup, take the door panel off, and then the 5" speaker enclosure (yes, its actually a small plastic enclosure) is screwed to the door frame with 3 or 4 screws and unplugs... you'll need the wire that runs inside the 5" enclosure for the new speakers. The bracket for the 6 1/2s will mount in the same place as the 5" enclosure.
