When you even burn a CD onto a CD-R, you lose a lot of sound quality right there. The only way around this is if you're using a Professional Audio cd burner. No computer or home based recorder will give you an EXACT duplicate. Therefore, SQ will be lost. Do THAT comparison with your incredible ears and then let us know.
We never bothered testing a professionally burned cd because neither of us ever buy cds anymore (thank you kazaa).

Now what kind of test did a doctor do to find out if your ears are tuned for quality audio or not? They can tell how good your hearing is when it comes to different frequencies, but not how tuned it is when it comes to audio. Guess I'm just realistic....back to my cave LOL! [/B]
I think audio sounds alot better to me than someone with a hearing aid or hearing loss in one ear...

Get a blind person to do a listening test. Their hearing ability is uncanny.

if you go on long trips alot, the mp3 comes in handy. i usually dont go lower than 192 for the bitrate. sometimes i go 160 for lyrircissm type rap. otherwise if you really want the beat to sound crisp, go 192 or 256. 320 is kinda a waste of space cause 256 is pretty much cd quality already.

Is there anyway to somehow "rerecord" music files at a higher bitrate? Its hard to find many 192 bit files or higher off of kazaa.

I got the Pioneer DEH-P7400MP which is mp3/cd and I think its pretty awesome. Like they said, if you DL alot and have alot of songs you like, go mp3, tis best way IMO.

Not if you have a lower bitrate MP3 already. MP3 is compression and will cut out so much, depending on the quality of the file. If you have the original audio CD or even a .WAV file of the track, yes. If you're working with MP3 already, you can only get worse, unfortunately, the damage's been done.

Exactly, when I was first getting into MP3's I asked the same question... someone gave me the example of a block of wood. If you cut it... it's cut. There's no going back to original. Yea you can glue it or nail it, but is it really the same? It's easy to tell the diffrence.

Better SQ: CD Player

I don't care how high a bitrate that you rip your MP3's at, there is still compression going on, so there is a loss of SQ. Now your system or ears ability to discern this loss of SQ is what you have to ask yourself. An even better question is if you care or not.

The benefit of the MP3 deck is that you have the option. You can always run regular media in there instead of MP3 discs. One drawback is that most of the MP3 capable units out there are not that great of SQ units. That's a pretty general statement, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that you won't find MP3 capabilities on most of the "SQ" decks out there - we'll see what CES brings....

If this is for your daily driver, and you can't tell/don't care about SQ loss....go MP3. IT's far more convenient. I would also consider what your internet connection/computer is like. If you have the capability to download or rip lots of MP3's (only of the CD's that you have purchased of course ) then the MP3 head is a good option. If you are on a slow dialup like me and are a SQ freak...well...it's not that great of an option.
Yes it is a general statment, if you get an external amp (like my HU requires) the sound quality is better than any internal amp that HU's have.

Wether or not a person has a dail up connection or broadband is null. Some of us buy CD's and rip them to MP3's (like myself) and just have one MP3's CD with all different types of albums on them.

Right now I have discs with one artist on them but every song they've made. I haven't put a regular CD in the unit since I got it.
