Default 98 Integra Keyless Entry Unresponsive

I have 98 Integra RS, bought 2nd hand and I don't have any manuals for the alarm/keyless entry system. It's an Alphine 8026a. Here is the problem:

1. If I stand 2-3 feet or more away from the car, the remote cannot lock/unlock/ or arm/disarm the alarm.
2. If I sit right in the car the remote works everytime.

So thinking that distances from the car makes a difference then it could be that the battery on the remote needs to be changed; however when I changed the battery it made absolutely no difference at all. I have to literally be sitting inside the car for the keyless entry to work. So now, everytime I have to use the keys to manually unlock the car then quickly get in and disarm the alarm with my remote because being outside the car is too far away for the remote to work. I have two remotes that both experience the same problem so it seems to me that the problem is not the remote nor the battery. Any ideas what it could be?

How or where do I find the "antenna/alarm brain" for an integra 98?

we talking factory or aftermarket? if aftermarket most likely it will be on driver side underneath the steering collum area. it will be a black box sqaure or rectangle with lots of wires comming out of it. from 10 - 25 wires
