Default Question about my system issues

Hey guys i have a Sony Head unit that puts out about 52 watts a channel a Kicker AMP KICKER KX200.4
RMS Power Output: 35W x 4 @ 4 Ohms
Peak Power Output: 70W x 4 @ 4 Ohms
Birdged Output: 100W x 2 @ 4 Ohms
Signal To Noise Ratio: 95dB
Frequency Response: 20-20,000Hz
Bass Boost: 0 -12dB
Built-In Crossovers: High and Low
THD @ 4 Ohm RMS Power: <1%
Low Level Input: Yes
Built in Cooling Fan: Yes
Bass Control Knob: No

And 2 Sets of Kicker Componet Speakers don't know model number i think they can go up to 125-150 Watts..

I was wondering i want my system to go a Tad bit louder (When on Freway) and when i go past 20-22 Vol out of 38-40 It distorts like CRAZY Can't understand song anymore..

My question is this a AMP issue (Not putting out enough power) Or Speaker issues.

I am thinking AMP, but if it is, if i also want to get a little 10" Powered Sub 200 Watts then what amount of wattage should my new AMP be?

O wait does Buit on AMP mean i don't need a extra 200 watt for a amp or no?

about 800 watts?

From what I was able to decipher out of your post, it's a amp issue. Your headunit puts out about 22 watts of RMS power, on a good day.

Going from sloppy HU power to clean, dedicated amplifier power will be a big difference. I noticed it right away.

Those speakers are most likely rated at 100-125 watts peak, not RMS. Peak or Max power means nothing, you'll never see it.

As far as that Kenwood powered setup goes, it served its purpose in my vehicle for quite some time. And yes, the amp is built into the side of the enclosure. No need for a seperate amp for that.

If I understand you correctly, your Kicker amp is powering two separate sets of component speakers?

Not sure about Kickers, but my Infinity Kappa perfects require 100 RMS each, and my Polk DB's want 90 RMS. A more powerful amp would definitely give you the sound your looking for.

At the volume level your getting distortion, it sounds like you might have your input sensitivity set incorrectly. Read my post here if that is a possibility. If that doesn't help, you could disconnect the rear speakers for the time being and bridge the amp to your fronts.

Now if your looking for a sub anyway, I would use amp you have for a Kicker CVR 10 (or something similar), and get something around 400 RMS to your components.
