I've never had a taste for the Pionner sound. That goes the same for home and car equiptment. I've had pretty much every brand out there, except for Sony. I don't need to own one to know how shitty they are. The sound quality is unrivaled from my Alpine, weather I'm using the HU amp or the preouts for driving an external amp.

I'll admit, this years flagship CDA-9857 was a little stripped down. Not as many features as I would have liked. But all that will change when I get the CDA-9887

I'd get eclipse h:

but of the two, I'd go with alpine if you plan on changing out the interior speakers.

if you're just gonna do the headunit, and maybe a sub, get the pioneer.

as nuts as it sounds, I installed an older deh6400 into my dads '00 accord v6. it actually sounds good in there with stock speakers :eek3:

the same HU sounded like crap with an amp running to my focal components

I have run Pioneer for a long time and loved the sound quality. I have owned different brands beside pioneer like in my wifes car and my work car. But the sound of the highs and mids that you can fine tune is amazing. I was about to scrap the system in my wifes car till I bought a Pioneer Premium 7500 HU and really brought the sound to life. My buddy swears by Alpine so both brands obviously wont disappoint!

Funny. Last aftermarket head unit I had was a Kenwood 858.

In my case, I'm not looking for lots of bells & whistles. I would like ipod connectivity with 3 sets of preamps for front, rear & sub. What's the best on the bottom end from alpine & pioneer?
