i just got a Alpine CDA-9856 with remote for $216.99 total. then you can get some alpine door speakers or some rf's for 79-100 dollars. this will get you started, and you will never have to upgrade the headunit because it has three pre-outs so adding extra amps is no problem

From personal experience, I am pleased with my sony speakers.

Also, remember he is on a 300 dollar budget.

I've yet to hear a good sounding Sony speaker, even amplified. They just don't cut it.

single 10 or twelve with a mono amp, but that will run you 300-500+ alone for a good set

as stated earlier what are looking for, spl or sq? is it something you want to invest into or just something to get by and be loud? i would suggest saving some more money and check out car audio forums and you'll probably find some nice stuff for a decent price.
