First i would start with a good or decient headunit. pioneer, alpine, kenwood or so. Next thing would be a good set of speakers. And then a subwoofer and amps or amp. There are many ways of putting a system toghter. What are you looking to acheive later? Madd bass, loud mids and highs, over all balence. Your budget makes it impossiable to do a full quality system. Start with a headunit first and follow as mention.

$200-$300 will not get you a decent system.

For $300, I would upgrade the headunit, then the front speakers in front.

ok....

Pioneer deh 4800mp 149.99
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PGk9Y7r...0&I=130DEHP480

Sony XS-V1642A 6 1/2 speakers
Front - Sony XS-V1642A
Rear - Sony XS-V1642A
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PGk9Y7r...0&I=158XSV1642
69.99 x 2

Im sure your gonna hear people saying sony sucks.
I've only had sony speakers in all my cars. Im very satisfied with them. Very loud and clear, doesn't distort at all.
Im just not a fan of their AMPS.

= 289.97.
probably free shipping offered from crutchfield too. Im sure you can find them on ebay a tad lower in price.

Now save up another 200-250 bucks and you can get yourself a bazooka tube and amp.

I feel you. I really dislike sony speakers. Sony is not on my list of car gear. Only thing I disagree is on the pioneer 4800. Its a great starter radio. But If you can save up and get the model above it.
