i need a quick refresher. whats the diff between a 2ohm and a 4ohm sub and how they are wired?

That is the impedance rating for the sub. The difference has to do with the amp you will be using. Amps will put out different power ratings at different OHMs.

So in order to decide if you want the 4 OHM or the 2 OHM, you should know what amp you are going to use.

500w@4 ohms or 500w@2 ohms..

Is there a difference in the sound quality of the subs in this case?(assuming the sub and amp can handle 2 ohms)

the only reason subs are made in different coil configurations is for wiring flexibility. it makes no difference other than that, none.
