Default antenna

is there a way that the antenna only pops up whwn u turn on the radio and not the cd player, as it does always even if u play cd on a 97 anvv. edition and also i installed an amp. and a sub, and ever since the radio stopped working, what could be the reason?

Moved to Audio & Security.

Run-on sentences preclude my taking interest your problem.

Yup, it's determined by the headunit.

On mine (Alpine CDA-7998), when TUNER is selected and the tuner band is set to AM, FM1, or FM2 the antenna goes up. When TUNER is selected, but the band is set to XM1 or XM2 the antenna stays down. When CD or CD CHANGER are selected, the antenna stays down.

You could always put a switch on the power antenna activation wire.

I have no idea what's up with your radio.

You could just get a hidden/non-retractable antenna and then it wouldn't make any difference.
