Default need advice

ok heres what i want to do

im gonna get two Alpine type r 10/12 inch subs they have 1500watts/500RMS watss. I plan to get an amp that can peak at 600-700RMS

The question i need answered is.... Will i have to change my alternator to be able to support this system? My car is a stock 98 civic ex, no electrical modifications. If i have to replace the alternator what should i get and where can i get one.

need as much advise as possible cuz i will be buying the system soon.

So you are planning to power a pair of those subs with a single 600-700 watt amp? If that is going to be your only amp, I think you will be ok. Just look for a nice class D amp since they tend to be more efficient than a/b amps.

I have a 1999 Integra, I once had a 600 watt JBL bp600.1 AND a Fosgate 600a4 running through my car at the same time. My alternator is still good....for now. There are signs of it getting weak though.

I have a 97 civic ex (basically same car as you) and I was running an 800 watt cadence amp on an idmax for some time without any problems. My headlights would dim slightly, but other than that everything was fine.

yup you should be fine. may want to look into a battery that has more cranking amps, maybe an Optima or something

ok thanks i was planning on changing the battery to an optima because honestly i dont know how much longer this batter has lol

so basically the amp is good for those subs and i would only notice a slight headlight dimming.

ok thanks for the advise all i gotta do now is look around for the amp.

im prolly gonna go with alpine, any other suggestions?

phoenix gold OCTANE-R 8.0:1

any opinions on phoenix gold... this amp is a class d amp and has a peak of 800watts at 2ohms? Would this be good as long as the resistance on my subs is 2 ohms?

Older PG was very good quality stuff, I haven't heard anything about the newer ones though.

Also, don't go by peak power, it is worthless. Only look at RMS power.

does ne1 know how the newer PG are?

also i checked PG's website to see what the RMS watts are for that particular amp and i could not find it. Does ne1 happen to know the RMS watts on that amp?
