for a 94 rs hb, replacing the front speakers, need to make mount, thinking of using mdf and make a square about 3/4" thick around the opening, securing it to the metal and screwing the speaker on to that. Will this be good for elminating rattle or any other problems i'm overlooking?

 

This is a great way to mount a speaker. Although it doesnt have to be square. Make it round. As for solving your rattles or other problems, be more specific.

 

I was basically wondering if there are any obvious design flaws...If I get the dimensions of the square right 4 parts of the mdf will be touching the very edge of the metal enclousure(that's where I'll attach the speaker). What's the advantage of having two half circles..

 

I did infact use a circle. had to shave the mdf down to 1.5cm so my car door would fit back on. Stock grills went on well =)

Yep, I did the same thing with my car. Although, I had some trouble finding a way to stick the mdf onto the metal. What did you guys use?

 

I saw some pictures once posted by an Integra owner of some really nice MDF rings he made... sure wish I could get a template from this guy to take out some of the guess work.

 

All I plan to do is cut the inside hole with the speaker diagram as a guide. Then cut the outside ring about .75"-1" bigger than the hole. Of course making sure that it will line up with the factory holes that hold the stock basket in. Then I hope to drill a hole and put a screw to hold the baffle onto the sheet metal. I hope to not run into any problems. h:

 

I just used the orignal plastic ring as a template for the mdf baffel i made. It bolted right into the stock mounting points for the plastic ring and i didnt even have to shave it to get the grill to fit. It was 3/4". Just make sure to seal it somehow so water doesnt destroy it.

 

I was going to do that, but my basket is made to hold a 5.25". I just still crossing my fingers hoping that a 6.5" will fit in that location. I havent thought about sealing it. How did you seal yours? Would a few layers of spray paint help?
