There should be enough space to just cut a bigger hole. Its funny because everyone has been saying they have a 6 1/2 stock. I know mine is a 5 1/4 but anyways. I used some wood sealer that was lying around and then hit it with a few coats of paint. A few layers of paint should do fine though. Probably just want to make sure you get the edges good and the inside of the hole where the wood is cut. It will really soak up the paint. I havent had any problems and its been in quite a bit of rain.

Yea even Crutchfield says that 6.5" will fit in the front. I dont see how using the stock basket.

Anyway. I just finished making the baffles h: I will post up pics when I am done with painting. I am using .75" MDF and was having trouble fitting it because of the way my door panel is. I am going to have to nudge some wood away and it is getting pretty thin around the mounting hole. :nervous: If only the UPS man will come with my speakers so I can test fit and paint.

I have 6.5" speakers in my doors without baffles. I just cut the back out of the plastic mounting bracket for more depth. I'm going to use MDF baffles for my MB Quarts when I get around to installing them.

That is weird. I'll take pics later since I am heading out to pick my enclosure up h: But my 5.25" sits perfectly inside of the OEM basket. There is literally no more room for anything bigger in diameter. But I probably should mention that I have a sedan? :thinking:

 

Got the speakers. Finished the baffles. The magnet will not clear the window-rail. Sigh.

 

the biggest problems for me was lining up the mdf circle with the mounts ( not sure if stock or aftermarket; little plastic screw grippers about an inch deep). I was only able to get 3 screws in each but that's plenty. The mdf was too thick 3/4" so i had to cut it in half with a hacksaw which saved me the expense/time of making another mount. 8)
