Amp overkill?
I'm interested in this guy right here ...
Alpine MRD-M605
Key features:
» mono subwoofer car amplifier
» 400 watts x 1 at 4 ohms (600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)
» Class D design
» internal, variable-speed cooling fan
» Bass Engine® features:
• low-pass digital filter, 30-200 Hz, with a selectable 12 or 24 dB/octave slope
• selectable subsonic filter (off, 15Hz, or 30 Hz with 24 dB/octave slope)
• Bass EQ (0-16 dB at 45 Hz)
» top-mounted digital control center with cover
» CEA-2006 Compliant
» optional remote level control
» preamp inputs and outputs
» extra-large terminals
» fuse rating: 30A x 2
» requires 4-gauge power and ground leads — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
» dimensions: 11-7/16"W x 2-7/16"H x 9"D
» warranty: 1 year
I need it to power one of these:
MBQuart DWE254 10in Sub
* Impedance: 2x4 Ohms
* Frequency Response: 25 – 300
* Sensitivity: 2,4 dB
* Power Range: 250 watts
* Crossover Freq: - Hz
* Crossover Slope: - dB/octave
overkill? too much power?
the only reason I ask is because I can get that amp for $240 to my door. It's the best bang for the buck. I found last year's Alpine at around 200W for $200. :eh:

That thing is going to be putting out 600 watts to a sub that is rated for 250 watts. More power is always good, but then there is just too much. h: But I think if you keep the gains down, you will be fine.
