Default Crossover - amp= ????

I've had a 3 way crossover sitting in my closet for over 2 months now. Is it possible to install the crossover without having to hook up another amp???
Right now I have an amp for my subs, and I have an extra smaller amp sitting around that I could use for the front speakers, but I am wondering if that is the only way that I can hook up the crossover. I would prefer just hooking up the crossover right after the HU, before the speakers and the amp. Right now the system sounds "loud" enough for me, so I don't really care too much about adding the extra amp, but I do want to add the crossover to adjust the front, rear, and subs seperately so it will sound nicer. Can anyone help? Or is adding that amp the only way around it? I'm kinda lazy about having to add a dist block and the other amp, and having to splice the HU speaker wires to run to the amp, and then run everything to the crossover, and then back to the speaker wires, blah blah blah.

yeah you'll have to put in another amp. your gonna have rca out from the headunit to the xover and than from there your gonna have rca's running to your amps. and don't worry it's not that bad, i've done them in a hour before.

So i have to splice from the HU, to the crossover, then rca to the amp, them from the amp, back to the speaker wires behind the HU? Sounds like it can be done in an hour, but damn that a lot of line to run all over the place.

I was kinda hoping that maybe there was something out there that I could purchase to go from the HU wires and convert to the RCA plugs for the crossover rather than having to use the amp for that.

Do your amps have crossovers on them? You may be able to get away with just using them instead of installing the x over. Do you have an after market hu? I think some units will let you highpass the speaker outputs from the deck if its aftermarket. Either way i still suggest installing an amp on the front speakers. Most head units dont put out enough power to be useful imo esp if you have to keep up with subs.

tbh your wasting your time, if your headunit dosent have rca line outs then its not a system that would need a cross over, if its a 3 ch cross over (frnt, rear, sub) you dont have to use all three, u could just use it as a low pass filter for your bass amp, most amps these days have x-overs built in and you can over process the sound before it gets to the amp

I know that amps come with crossovers, but I thought it would be better with the 3way crossover so I can adjust the front and rear seperately, since they are different sizes, rather than just adjust the amp for all the speakers.
