Product Details

• Active Black Panel: When the unit is off, the display turns completely off. With the display illumination off, all you see is a flat, blank, gloss-black front panel, so it appears as though there is not a radio in the dash.
• Flip-Down Face: This unit is equipped with a motorized flip-down faceplate (it is not detachable). When you press the open button the faceplate flips down, revealing the CD loading slot and the silver control panel. When the faceplate is in this position, you may control all the functions of the unit from the control panel.
• Active Black Panel Display Illumination: The main display line (which shows tuner frequency and text info) and the menu navigation arrows are displayed with white illumination. The bottom segments of the spectrum analyzer are displayed with light blue illumination, the middle segments are displayed with white illumination and the top segment is displayed with red illumination. The repeat and shuffle indicators are displayed with orange illumination. The open button is backlit with red illumination.
• Control Panel Display/Button Illumination: The display is backlit with bright blue illumination and the buttons are backlit with red illumination.
• Spectrum Analyzer: You may set the unit to display any of six different patterns. This spectrum analyzer can be turned off.
• Motion Display (Active Black Panel): When the unit is on, the main display will automatically switch back and forth between the clock and source information. A graphic with random letters and numbers comes down like rain until the clock or the source information becomes visible. The left and right portions of the display show bars scrolling vertically at varying speeds. The motion display can be turned off.
• Dual Info Display: There is a portion of the display that can be set to show the source name (FM1, FM2, CD, etc.) or the clock, while the main display line shows CD Text, the track number and elapsed time, or the tuner frequency.
• Adjustable Display Contrast: The contrast of the control panel and Active Black Panel displays may be adjusted for better viewing from various angles and in less than optimum lighting conditions. The contrast control affects both displays simultaneously, so both displays are always set to the same contrast setting.
• Dimmer: When the dimmer mode is set to "Auto" and the illumination lead receives power, the display dims to a preset level. The display brightness is not affected by the vehicle's dimmer control. Also, the dimmer feature may be turned off, so dimming does not take place when the illumination lead receives power. You may choose to dim the display at all times by setting the dimmer mode to "On". Note: For this feature to work, the unit's illumination wire must be connected to your vehicle's dash lights wire.
• CD Compatibility: This unit will play prerecorded CDs and finalized CD-Rs. The unit reviewed by Crutchfield played a CD-RW disc, but Sony does not claim compatibility with CD-RW discs. Results with CD-RW discs will vary depending on the quality of the discs; there are audio CD-RW discs that this unit will not play.
• D-Bass: D-bass uses a sharper curve than standard loudness controls to give you more bass without interfering with mids and highs. Besides "D-bass off", there is D-bass 1, 2 and 3, each of which gives you progressively more bass.
• High-Pass Filter: The front and rear preamp outputs may be set for full-range, 78Hz high-pass or 125Hz high-pass operation.
• Low-Pass Filter: The subwoofer preamp outputs may be set for full-range, 78Hz low-pass or 125Hz low-pass operation.
• CD Text Capable: When used with a CD Text encoded CD, this unit will display the CD text information.
• Station Memo: You can assign a name of up to 8 characters in length to each tuner preset station. Station Memos can be used with the List-up function to locate a station.
• SSIR-EXA Adaptive Reception: The SSIR-EXA tuner is equipped with "Adaptive Reception". The Adaptive Reception feature has two (IF AUTO and WIDE) for optimizing FM reception. The "wide" mode decreases the tuner's selectivity but results in better frequency response. The auto mode automatically adjusts the tuner for a good balance between frequency response and minimum station-to-station interference. The Adaptive Reception feature cannot be turned off.
• Source Tone Memory: Each source (AM/FM/CD/Changer) can store its own bass and treble levels.
• Remote Compatibility: This receiver can be controlled by an optional wired rotary commander (item 158RMX4S).
• Attenuator/Mute: The attenuate/mute function is accessible only by remote.
• Cellular Mute Lead: This unit is equipped with a lead that mutes audio output when a cellular call is received, then restores the level once the call is over. To use this feature, you must have a cellular phone with a muting output that can be connected to the cellular mute lead.
• Sound and Display Settings:
• Clock: Allows you to set clock time (clock displays on upper left hand portion of display).
• Beep: Turns the beep that unit normally makes when a function is selected On or Off. This beep sound is from the internal amplifier ONLY, not the preamp outputs.
• RM (Rotary Commander): Changes the control direction of the optional wired remote, so it corresponds to where the remote is mounted (left or right of steering column).
• English/French/Spanish: Changes the display language.
• D.INFO (Dual Information): Used to display the clock and play mode at the same time.
• SA (Spectrum Analyzer): Changes the display pattern of the spectrum analyzer.
• Dimmer: Allows you to select Auto, On or Off.
• Contrast: Allows you to adjust the contrast of the display.
• M.DSPL (Motion Display): Allows you to turn the Motion Display On or Off.
• LOCAL: Turns local seek mode On or Off.
• MONO: Turn mono mode On or Off.
• IF AUTO/WIDE: Allows you to select IF Auto or Wide Adaptive Reception mode.
• HPF (High-Pass Filter): Allows you to select full-range, 78Hz high-pass or 125Hz high-pass operation.
• LPF (Low-Pass Filter): Allows you to select full-range, 78Hz low-pass or 125Hz low-pass operation.
• BTM (Best Tuning Memory): Selects the stations with the strongest signals and memorizes them in the order of their frequencies.
• Name Edit: Allows you to label a radio station or CD.
• Name Del: Allows you to delete the name that you have entered for a radio station or CD.
• A.SCRL (Auto scroll): Automatically scrolls a disc or track name if it exceeds 8 characters.
• Shuf: Cycles through the shuffle play modes.
• Repeat: Cycles through the repeat play modes.
• Changer Controls
• Control of Multiple Changers: A maximum of 5 CD changers, or a maximum of 5 MD changers may be connected to this receiver. When connecting CD and MD changers, you may connect up to a total of 7 changers (but there must not be more than 5 of one type of changer). When connecting more than one changer to this receiver, you must use item 158XAC30.
• Functions:
• Changer Select
• Disc Skip (forward/reverse)
• Track Skip (forward/reverse)
• Audible Track Search (forward/reverse)
• Shuffle-1: Plays the tracks on the current disc in random order
• Shuffle-2: Plays tracks from all discs in the selected changer in random order
• Shuffle-All: Plays tracks from all connected changers in random order
• Repeat-1: Repeats the current track
• Repeat-2: Repeats the current disc
• Custom File: for 110 discs (per changer). Assign up to an 8 character title per disc (Disc Memo). Assign "SKIP" OR "PLAY" to each track on the disc. A maximum of 24 tracks per disc can be set to "SKIP", if the disc has a title. After a disc has been given a custom title, you may search for the disc, by title, using the List-up function.
• TV/Video Controls
• TV/Video: You can connect an optional Sony TV tuner and TV monitor to this unit. This unit will automatically memorize the strongest TV signals (up to 12 channels). You can store a name for each channel (up to 8 characters) and display it by using the List-up function (displays on the TV monitor). Disc info that is stored in memory and radio station names can be displayed on the TV monitor.
• Simultaneous Play: The Simultaneous Play function allows you to watch the TV and listen to a CD or MD at the same time. Note: This function does not work while you are listening to the radio.
• Remote Control
• Remote: This unit comes with the Sony RM-X93 wireless remote.
• Buttons:
• Off
• Open/Close
• D-Bass: Cycles through D-bass presets.
• Menu: Brings up the menu functions (sound and display settings).
