well.... the remote turn on wire is supposed to only power the amp with the stereo on, not with the ignition. You dont want the amp on all the time if you arent even listening to the stereo. All it needs is a confirmative 12v power to tell that it should be turned on, not an actual power supply, that comes from the battery and into the B+ terminal on the amp. The speakers only get power when the stereo is on, so it was a perfect wire to tap the remote line into to get the signal.

yes i understand that, but i've never heard of tapping a speaker for amp remote. i would say that's the boughetto way of doing it...

if you have a better way for doing it with the stock head unit and still only having it turn on with the stereo and not the ignition, let me know. Its not anymore boughetto than splicing it into the ignition power wire, only difference is when it gets power.

if that works...great.

but be sure its not messing up the impedance on the HU or something like that. the "power" to the speakers isnt exactly the same power that goes to the amp.

I know... its just temp until he gets a new HU. I checked and it put out a strong constant signal before the tap, and puts out the same voltage afterwards.... so there shouldnt be a prob. We spliced it in right at the wiring harness connector on the back of the HU so its not like its taking power halfway down the speaker wire, its getting it right at the same source the speaker wire is.

I wired the turn on lead to the in-car fusebox, under the steering wheel, with a switch along the way. This way, the amp only goes on when the key's in the ACC/Power position and I can turn the amp off whenever I need to by flicking the switch.
