What is needed to add the factory alarm to a 1998 Civic LX?

You need the factory radio, keyless entry remotes, and Honda part number 08E51-S01-101F

You can get the remotes and module from www.honda-accessories.com. Get the correct remotes for your year car and get the module from a 99-00 civic EX.

Module---> http://www.handa-accessories.com/civelec00.html

Remotes ------> http://www.handa-accessories.com/civic98.html

I just installed this in my 96 civic LX about three weeks ago.

Thanks for the info. The aftermarket alarm that was already installed in my Civic was not properly installed and I had planned on completely removing it and installing factory keyless entry. However, after trying to remove the alarm and seeing how bad the wiring was I decided to take the car to another alarm installer and have them replace the alarm with a better unit and correct the wiring nightmare.

yeah, the factory keyless isn't an alarm. It just gets you in and out of the car....

if you want theft deterent, stick with an alarm.

I personally use both, depending where I park

You can add a factory alarm to the keyless entry system. With the module I listed above, it includes a starter cutoff relay and links the keyless to the OEM alarm module.
