Default A little non-honda help if you don't mind...

Hey, I've been trying to fix my brother's car (an '83 Grand Prix) and when we try to start it, a loud popping sound comes from around the engine, and I'm pretty sure it's an electrical problem. What kinds of electrical problems can create a loud popping noise? It's not sporatic or random--it's a very regular sound that will go on for as long as the key is turned. Any ideas? It looks like his starter grounds directly to the engine, and that seems solid, so I'm guessing something else? I changed his spark plugs for him, and I went around the block in the car and it died after about 2 minutes of driving and refused to start. The spark plug caps seem to be all the way on.

Help much appreciated.
