Rule of thumb is 1 farad for every 1000 watts of power, so in your case a .5 farad cap might do the trick. Like what steveng said, try to track down that other thread about caps...it might help clarify some of the debates about caps and questions you may have about them. I won't get into here, but I could go either way on whether or not a cap is effective. In your case, it sounds like when you crank the stereo the lights tend to dim. Assuming you've wired with sufficient wire and your battery/alternator are fine, a cap may do the trick. But it wouldn't hurt to get your system tested...lots of shops do it for free and can tell you whether or not your stereo is trying to draw too much power for what your car's electrical system can produce.

a higher outputing alternator will make you slower too btw. i suggest cap i'm in process of buying one. what v12 amp are you running? i have th MRV-T707 wchi is 340 rms at 14.4 (never at that tho... hence buying cap).... its runnin on some gauge wire i forget... not HUGE... so its probably not 4..

I'm going to guess that the lightning audio amp kit you bought that's rated at 350watts is probably a 8ga kit. It would be nice to have had a 4ga kit instead, but I don't think that the wire is the problem. A 1/2 farad cap might help the probelm, but I doubt it would solve it. I would guess that it is the weak alternator. You can get your stock alternator rewound at some places for about $200, and it will be able to put out more current.

fixed. I took off more of the wiring around the end of the ground wire and spread it out and sanded down the paint on the frame of the car where I had the ground attached to a bolt and bracket that holds in the backseats. Dimming has been minimized.
Barely noticable now, when earlier it almost looked like i was flashing oncoming cars.
