Default whats wrong?

ok, so when i turn up the volume the speakers start getting distorted. not really distorted but a scratching noise from treble. i have 6.5" rockford speakers. when i set the balance all the way to the right the noise goes away. when i set the balance to the left it makes the noise. when i have it in the center.. ALL the speakers make the noise. i tried moving the speakers around and it still does the same thing. could somthing be wrong with the deck? its a mp3 panasonic. i dont remmeber the exact model. the weird thing is... if i leave the balance set on the right side for a day and i put it back in the center, itll sound fine for a while, then the scratching noise will come back. its a high pitch scratching noise that goes with the beat of the music. i dont have to turn the volume up that much to make it make the noise.

any help would be appreciated
thanks,
jon
