6th Gen Accord - 4 or 6 cyl?
I'm thinking about a looking for a used 6th gen Accord. Currently, I've got a '94 5th gen with 240K on the clock (still runs great), but am looking for a newer car. The 5th gen has the v-tec 4 cylinder, and I'm not certain whether to look for another 4, or go for the 6. I know the 6 has a bit more power, but are there any reliability or cost issues associated with the 6 (other than the initial cost differnce)? I'm partiularly concerned with reliability issues and maintainance costs.
TIA!

the V6 is a great highway cruiser. the auto tranny is a bit problematic and is well documented. (the problem only occurs in under 3% of the Accords though) to compensate for the tranny, Honda issued an extended service plan on the 00 and 01 models which covers them for an additional 7 years.
if you're looking for something to last, get the i4, 5 speed, 6th gen. if you're looking for something a bit more relaxing to cruise in ... get a V6 EX.

Get the V6. The F23, while a great engine, isn't nearly as good as the V6. My powertrain has 125k miles on it and the only things that have gone wrong are an 02 sensor and an EGR...both common problems that cost about $200 each to fix.
The failing transmission in the V6 occurs in 1.6% of models...imy tranny shifts a bit hard when cold and it sucks because it's an automatic but it's not bad. If you really want a manual tranny, get the EX-L 4 banger. You'll love it. If you don't care or prefer automatic, get the EX-V6. It's a fantastic car

I would definately pick up the I4-manual over the V6 if you want to attempt to build a handling car.
Its tough to enter the corners and match revs on the automatic V6. The four is definately great on the gas milaeage too.
My sister has the EXV6 sedan while I have the EX-4cylinder stick. The brakes on both cars nearly identical, for this reason the 4cylinder has better braking feel.
However, if you can't or don't want to row the gears I would definately get the V6. The automatic tranny really makes the four cylinder feel anemic when you campare them side by side. Getting the 4-stick over the 6-auto isn't giving up much speed either.
As for seating position the Coupe driver seat sits much lower and further back then the sedan. This might help you if you are long legged too. If driver postion isn't hugely important the sedan versitility is a huge plus.
Maintnence will be cheaper on the 4cylinder too. The brakes on the 4 are more common. Same with hoses. The 4-cylinder only has one t-belt aswell.
I'd definately test drive them both though and decide then. The market for Accords is HUGE, so don't settle until you find a perfectly clean car you like. Accords are a dime a dozen so the hunting will be good.
