Default Shifting without clutch bad for tranny?

Ok, so my pops was like "Did you now you could change gears without using your clutch?" at first i was like, dad, youre trippin'...until i tried it. Im sure some of you know what its called, and what im talkin about. But, anyways, if you do it right, it doesnt even feel like youre shifting. Just wanted to know if its bad for my car (Accord 5sp coupe 00)?

Haha Im guessing its bad if you dont do it right. Ive done it before in an old 240 and heard klinks/grinds when I couldnt get it right. But yeah its cool once you master it.

i heard about that, if you hit it at the right RPMs it doesnt grind and i guess you shift faster? no point in doing this unless your racing ???? for everyday driving i would think there would be no point at all

yeah, you pull/slide your gear @ or above 3000 rpms, then you push it in a higher gear @ 2500 rpms, and you wont feel a thing. Well, thats in my car atleast. (5sp 00accord coupe)

Edit: im not sure why you would want to do it if youre racing, if youre at redline, you would have to wait for your car to get all the way back to 2500 rpms. And if you didnt, youre grinding like e-40

it does not hurt anything if you dont grind the gears while doing it. It is all a matter of engine speed and timming.

driving a truck, you usually dont use the clutch, only for take-off and downshifting... but once you get really good, you can downshift without the clutch too.

i would not want to destroy my synchros and my gears. in general imports don't take to this type of shifting. domestic guys seem to get away with, possibly because the have much stronger trannies.

the best way to shift when racing a honda is too use the clutch, but don't let off the gas. that way your rpms don't drop and your tranny doesn't get trashed, of course you may bounce of the rev limiter, but that means you now need to shift faster.

I used to float gears in my old Probe all the time...it takes a little bit of practice to get it really good though. Hella fun when you freak your friends out one night just cruising down the avenue though.

i have 3-4 mastered but the other shifts and downshifts are not doing it for me at the moment. I only do it out of laziness and it does freak passengers out. U would not do this while racing since u can't match up the rpm's when u are redlining ur car.

I also like to shift 1-2 with wide open throtle and if done right 2nd will chirp nicely. It worked a lot better with stock tires though.

thankx for the info, just wanted to know if that will ruin gears and whatnot, guess not then?
as for racing, when you redline, then shift without taking your foot off the gas, dont you light up your tires? and if so, doesnt that make you go slower?
