They might give u a courtesy stop to tell you its out. Other than that, if your other brake lights are in tact, you should be fine (i think).

Usually if there is a brake light on the spoiler, the 3rd light in the back window is disabled.

damn...glad it's not like that here......and besides, if some dumbass doesn't see the two lights, the third probably won't grab their attention either......and when one goes, the others usually don't work correctly, so that can't be it

I dont think it is its just an extra safty feature car manuf. put on but it cant be required by law as all cars/trucks dont have 3 break lights...

No.

All new cars/SUVs are required by law to have three brake lights. Which includes the "high brake light." This law is for NEW vehicles manufactured after a certain date ( I assume somewhere in the late 1980s). As long as one of the "high brake lights" work, either the spoiler or oem middle light, then you are complying with the law.

strang, you say "I assume somewhere in the late 1980s" and I understand your not sure about the date, but my 95 truck didnt have one or a spot for one and neither does my friends 97 truck... So 80's aint right, and early 90's isnt even right, maybe late 90's or starting around in 2000, but in FL there is No law that says 3 lights are required, its just the 2 are... Law simply states at least 2 or more..., think about it a bike does not even have 3... lol they have 2 and some even have one, hehe

Oh well no biggie, was just posting my input on it... not trying to start anything

Well here in VA, I used to drive a station wagon a LONG time ago and when my 3rd brake light went out, I failed inspection. I don't think cops will really pull you over for it, but don't be surprised if you fail inspection.
