Ok, so.... advantages of header pipes over exhaust manifold??? Seems like a waste of money. I understand that they both bolt up to the exhaust ports of the motor, but can you really use the terms interchangeably? I thought that there was a distinct difference between the 2. In particular, 4 seperate pipes compared to one cast iron collector. This article confirms what I said before.... they perform the same function, but they're not the same thing. www.howstuffworks.com (on headers)

It doesn't really matter... I think we all know what these things are... so, I'm done... time to go cheer for the Red Sox!! GO PEDRO!!

if you don't know the difference in them, then yes, the terms can be used interchangeably.....headers flow better, scavenge better, broader torque curve, can have each pipe wrapped individually to retain heat in the exhaust system, where it's needed, etc....they are very different, but to someone who isn't overly knowledgeable about cars, they will probably seem the same...just one is shinier than the other...and that's a very general "how it works" too......tons of things not even touched on....
