Maybe because you get more torque or something but I ran 16.6 consitontly and 16.5 doing brake torque at 2000 and ran 16.8 16.9 either launching brake/gas at 1200 or not doing it at all.

Maybe I just dont know how to do it and my car is capable of 14.5's, 14.6's??? hehe, i hope so...
I personally like starting out in first, then second then third, and fourth in my 97 accord se. It gives it a sportyer feel and it allows you to control shift points for better efficiency.
BUT, do learn to drive for a couple years before you start racing... at bare minumum. Longer is even better.

Well whatever you do DONT POWER BRAKE unless you want to make your auto go out quicker. I made the mistake of thinking that it really helps you out. Well it doesnt. The i4 doesnt have a high enough stall speed to make it do anything. The only way to race with an auto is to buy a 5spd. But seriuolsy get a auto teanny cooler for b&m or hayden. leave it in d3 and just smash the gas. Spend 500 bucks and get a lvl ten tc witha higher stall speed.

At the track you should stay in D3 until the end because you have a lot of room in D3 before you hit D4.
