Default weird clunking noise

Lately i've been experiencing this weird clunking sound. It is very faint when u first start driving the car, but progressivly gets louder and more apparent as the drive continues. It happens when i am just starting to give it gas from a standstill. (automatic) Just as you step on the gas, i'll hear a clunk, as if something is shifting or is loose. The same sound is apparent when i slow to a stop too, almost when i am at a dead stop.

At first i thought it was a transmission problem, since a couple of days ago when i was gettin my tires changed, my car was leakin red fluid, which i assumed to be tranny fluid. I was gonna take it into the dealer friday, but they gave me the runaround and said they were too busy and that i'd hafta come back next week. so today saturday i took it to a mechanic that i occasionly go to. He barely drove the car and barely noticed the sound and said it's gotta do with lowering the car. he couldn't help me much cuz he was busy and also said to come back next week

I kno that when u lower ur car ur cv boots will start to rip and stuff...and eventually ur cv joints go. but you would hear ticking and stuff when u turn. but my problem is from a standstill goin in a straight line. Any ideas?

It sounds like a transmission problem, or a control arm problem. Try to determine a general area of where the noise is coming from.

sounds like it's comin from the right front axle. someone suggested it was the inner cv joint.

i dont know about yours cuz its an auto, but on my 5th gen manual the tannay is right around the right front axle area...And red fluid, thats sounds like bad news, did u check the fluid levels, before you continued to drive?? U may have a leak in the tranny, and just need to keep refilling it until you can get it serviced...

thanks for the replies. if it was indeed the transmission itself...wouldn't the shifts be really rough or seem abnormal? my problem doesn't really happen on a shift. it's more of when i suddenly give it gas slightly from a standstill, or slow down slightly.

sounds like transmission side... you definately should have that leak checked and your fluid levels checked. if you are running short on fluid it could be the cause.

it could be that the initial grabbing of the inner clutches is bad thats why you have a clunk when its going from slipping (you holding brakes) to giving it gas (grabbing).

or yea, get under the car and look at the CV boots.

ok.... i had the same problem with my car, just one question, do you have a camber kit on your car, cause if you do, at least on mine, the camber kit joints broke lose and i had to put in some extra bushings. So if you have a camber kit, just PM me and i'll help you out, don't worry took me 30 mins to fix it:thumbup:
