Default Alarm status LED

The alarm status LED in my car has never worked since i got it (had the car for 6 months) but now im deciding i want to replace it. The only problem is that i don't know which one to get! I think i need a 12volt one, but what about mA and mcd? Is there anyway to tell just by looking at the LED i have cuz the manual for my alarm system doesn't say ANYTHING about what kind of LED it is. If it helps I think it was factory installed when my car (94 accord lx) was new. Its a CJ Hawk 6000 alam system. Any ideas?

Never worked? What a dud, I would have called up the dealership and *****ed at them for it (I've gone back on warranty for a whole door panel because three inches of vinyl warped and a cruise control switch because the LED went out.). Anyway, I think you could replace it with one of those LED theft deterrant blinkers made by Varad possibly. I replaced mine with it and they come in any color you want. Plus they're much more visible than stock so people know your alarm's on.

If there is no electricity going to the LED after testing, I have no idea. Check the fuse, but I wonder if your alarm really works (?).

I didn't buy it from a dealer, i bought it from a private seller. The LED hasn't worked while I had the car (6 months) but i don't know before that. The cars 8 years old so i guess the LED probably burned out. Yes my alarm DOES work, i tested it many times. Where can you get these Verad LEDs?

Ohh. sorry. I must have misread - I thought you bought your car NEW, six months ago... my bad...yeah, 8 years can burn out an LED, though they have estimated life for about 100,000 hrs.

Varad LEDs can be purchased at almost any electronics store. I dont know any online at the top of my head, but if you lived around S.Cali then I know most of the places have it. I think your local audio shop should sell it. You can use it freely without an alarm system, or with an alarm system (i've had friends that have both) So it should be fine.

5th gens didnt come with factory installed alarms. It was a dealer installed option on all models.
