i down shift but only after i am at the bottom of a hill and wish to take off a little faster....any prob with that?

not a dumb question. I wouldn't go from 70mph to 2....you can go from D3 to D. avoid downshifting if it puts you near redline like that.

otherwise downshifting won't hurt. heck, running on the highway will do more harm as it's highway speeds that typically build up the high heat that kills trannys.

just keep away from redlines and be safe on slick roads.

like the other guy said.... the tranny wont downshift if its going to redline in the process... it will go into the lowest gear that it can w/o redlining.

Not low enough to justify the amount of problems that you will probably have with a conversion of this magnitude....you would be better of selling your car and buying another one with a 5 speed.

i don't think you know what your talking about. maybe if you have no clue about what your doing, but a good shop will get it done.

btw i have a auto-5sp swapped car

You can do it no problem with a stick, but it is living dangerously with an automatic. Couple of reasons:

1. You can match revs with a stick, you can't with an auto.

2. The clutch takes the brunt of the downshift on a manual, and that is completely driver controlled. You downshift with an auto, the gears are pretty much locking with the engine still turning the torque converter. Nothing like a good ole "thunk" to shake the cob webs off your transmission.
