2003 Accord Coupe - 1st Post
Since you know a lot about audio, do you know here I can an in-dash flip out dvd-player/radio/whatever else. I don't know audio for shit but I know I want the in-dash radio with dvd player so I can put my ps2 in my glovebox. I got a 5th gen.
There are a lot of things to consider...
The first of course being price. That is the single most important aspect to it. You can only buy what you can afford. Then you work from there as far as choosing goes. Of course there are certain things you want/don't want/don't care about in different receiver units.
Some are geared for extremely excellent SQ (8-volt preamp outs) (Eclipse AV8132, $?) and some are loaded to the hilt with features or boast best picture quality (IVA-D900, $2,300 (msrp usa)). There are tons of manufacturers.
Most fit the 1 1/2 (moany only take up 1 din slot) worth of Din the 5th gens have.
You can find a ton of info online or in mags, and I can help for what its worth. But since you know what you want it for (PS2 and DVD) just decide how much to spend and look.
Suggestion, although I haven't found to many "just fold outs" the PS2 could be both player and DVD player? MIGHT end up saving you a bunch of money. Just depends on what features you want with it. There are a ton of choices. Again how much $$ you want to spend will crunch the choices (if its low), otherwise the sky is the limit.

ok I see what ur saying. is there a in-dash motorized monitor then that comes out, that has Fm/am/cd player capabilites. So then i could just attach the ps2 too it and it come up in the screen?
Correct, some are just monitors with ins and outs, so you can plugs the PS2 into it and out with audio signals. Some are real nice with EVERYTHING built into it, which are nice also. Some are monitors with DVD/5.1 capabilities built-in (no CD/radio). They come in sizes ranging from 4.5"-7" in flip-outs too(from what I have seen for in-dash).
Its pretty simple to install too. I recently got a mag (can't remember the name atm) and it told you how to hook the PS2 to the car(underneath the glove-box), from start to finish. Looked nice by the end too.
Technically, you could just hook the PS2 to the monitor and for-go the rest and just have picture, although that would suck. The monitors are made just like your TV, minus the install(which can be a huge pain), it is almost plug-n-play.
Hope that helps

I think I'm gonna stash either a rockfordfosgate RAVDVD1 deck in the garage or an eclipse dvd that hasn't been announced yet (they didn't release one this spring but my fingers are crossed for the fall).
I'm gonna feed the stock changer's signal into the aux RCA input of the dvd deck which will send the preamp signal to either rockford power series amps or xtant if i'm feeling $rich$. then I'm probably looking at bostonacoustics proseries componants all around and a jl 10w7 facing the rear seat.
then I'll have prolly a monitor in the right visor and maybe the face of the dvd deck built into the left visor. the cool thing is that the dvd decks i'm looking at have internal surround processing and only preamp circuitry except for an small amp for a center channel for movies. that way I don't have to mess with a five channel amp or something.

Thanks BigL!
Warp,
Nice nice! The speaker-distance-eqs are pretty sweet. I was looking at a couple of them today. Alpine has some nice units, but be ready to shell out some decent wads of cash. What do you have in it now? And where will you put the HU? You gonna do it yourself?
I was checking the eclipse site and they had a DVD unit (8volt-woot) with a ton of other features that they are currently showcasing at events. Yay for 8-volt. And strangely not to many others, it seems, have 8v.
I will check out the bostons, but you are a sick mo-fo for the 10W7s they are some of the most fearsome looking subs I have seen and heard (at the audio store, where the guy had one 12w7 hooked to a 500 watt amp - it can handle nicely a crap-load more, hehe- but they sounded nice).
When I am done doing my tons of research and get fully into the loop of things, I will end up taking out a loan to get all the items cause its gonna be a huge amount to do it all right. But in the end worth it. Some of the alpine F1 stuff looks nice, but whew its a load of cash...
Also another to weigh in mind is some of the components are heavy as hell and I don't want to add to much weight to the car, I still want it to be fun to drive. I know it will already gain a huge amount of weight after dampening.
Yay for audio/performance peeps  .

Congrats on the new car, looks nice. I really like the silver trim. Not sure about the mirror tint, but the car still looks real good.
$4K is quite a bit if you ask me! For $4K you can have serious suspension, wheels, tires and enough left over for a few steak dinners.

Thanks Jschmid! Come on the mirror tint isn't that bad
The car is dirty too, and the light exposer was turned down so as to get a better pic. There is a lot of tree pollen.
And I agree 4k plus more taxes and a bunch more in insurance per year, which I was unpleasantly surprised about.. apparently each cylinder was worth about 200 more per 6 months, hehe.
But thank you.

But I plan on getting it lowered and rims, haven't decided on 17s or 18s (weight, cash, and looks are a factor).
