Default 94 Octane in an AV6

The manual suggested 87, but today the pump would only spurt out 94 and I was in a hurry so I had to get it.

I dunno, but the car felt a lot smoother. I've seen dynos that prove 87 is the best, but my ass dyno says otherwise.

can't you throw the engine timing off with high octaine gas?

haha whatt? you've seen dyno's that prove 87 is the best? here look at this and tell me if you think the same....

"Can I Save Money and Run Low Octane? Wrong!
Here is a dyno chart showing two different cars. When I dynoed one of these cars, I knew that something was immediately wrong! Guess which one?

Notice that the 89 Octane car's power curves are very jagged. This is a result of the car "hearing" knocking and pinging and desperately trying to adjust the timing and save the engine. The ECU is almost searching for the best advance and having quite some trouble, not good.

The stunning results of running the lower grade fuel are -22 ft/lbs and almost -19 HP!!!! Ouch!

Folks, don't abuse the knock sensing capabilities of you beloved car. Let's just stick to the good stuff! "

some cars run fine with 87 but better and smoother with higher octane, you wont feel anything goin from 87 to 91..but i think from 87 to 94 yes you will...and some higher compression ones like the vtec engines require 91 octane. hope this helps.

Thanks, but i still dunno. I saw a few dynos at AccordV6.com. These were dynos of 98-02 models that used 87 octane versus other grades. Manual also recommends 87.

19hp? no way on a stock or lightly modded engine. One would have to have some serious tunning and mods to see the difference on a dyno with stock gas.

I've worked on a lot of cars and race gas will help at the track, but again, don't expect any major differences in performance on stock pump gas with stock cars.

Are you kidding me? I thought the engine should adjust timing, etc. in order to suit whatever octance is used. Isn't it common knowlegde that the new V6 Accords are "recommended" to run on 87/regular yet put out more power with premium?

I don't know if this is the case for the K24 or other/previous Accord engines, though. . .Can anybody that actually knows about this stuff clear this issue up?

av6 only needs 87 b/c it is not high compression. dohc vtecs need 91+ (93 ron) to avoid pinging due to high compression. some motors can use either, with lower power (ecu retarded ignition) on regular fuel
