Default Cone air filters, bad experience.

I have a 2000 v6 coupe, put on aem short ram. Notices my gas mileage was getting really BAD. Checked everything. Put on my stock air filter box and VOILA , 20% increase in mileage.

I just want people to know that cleaning those cone filters DOES NOT WORK. You need to replace them every time.

You prolly just punched it more often when you had the cone filter in, thats why it seems like less gas mileage.

Not true. It was not being able to clean those cone filters completely. They are just too expensive to keep replacing.

You dont even need to clean the filter for 50k miles if it was a k&n. Did you at least reset your ecu after installing your intake? Were you comparing freeway miles with city miles? Were you trying to get that "roar" sound everytime you drove your car?

I clean my K&N (well AEM copy of it) every 2nd-3rd oil change, maybe 4th if im lazy. Thats about 10k miles. My gas mileage is better than before... I tuned it up too, but I know it didnt hurt gas mileage.

I've gotten better gas milage from my cone filter. I just cleaned it after 50,000 miles and it works just like new. On average I get about 360 miles on 1 tank. It must not be a K&N filter, or maybe you didn't re oil the filter?
