Actually, since my gf graduated college, I may be buying her beater 90 Integra and make it my beater/ project car. I have a Civic and it isn't too far from stock, but it has started getting more attention since I put on the new rims and rubber. I really hate even leaving it on my street when we live in a nice neighborhood. Anything can happen. In a college area, like smokedog said, anything goes. We all know we do stupid things when we are drunk!

First of all...it's not stock

17" spiders, Eibach Pro Kit, M3 Style Mirrors, Euro Tails, Clear Coners/Bumpers, Stock Spoiler, Aiwa Deck, Custom Liscense Plate (my name), Tusedo Universal Exhaust, AEM Cold Air Intake...

And even if it was stock...what kind of an idiot wouldn't care if ppl messed w/ their car? I don't care if I have a 1984 Rust Mobile or a 2003 CLK 430...I don't want anyone messing w/ it!!!

Is it really worth it to buy a beater?

Think about it...

I would have to pay for the beater itself...let's say $2k at most....

Then I would have to pay for insurance...

Then the typical maintenance stuff...oil/brakes/alignment...

Then...since it is a beater and all...I can expect some major problems which would obviously run a good amount

Keep in mind, the sole purpose of this beater would be for college...BUT...I would have to get it from my house to college 3 hrs away...since it is a BEATER and all...who say's it will even make it that far???

I have been saving for a new car which I hope to buy in 3 yrs...however, I am not sure exactly what I am going to get. Anyways...to buy a beater now would mean dipping into my future whip funds....

Let me know what u guys think of my pts. on a beater whether you disagree/agree...all comments welcome!!!

Dont get a f*cking beater. I understand people protecting their cars and shit but this is going to some rediculous extremes. First of all, it's a Honda not a Mercedes. Secondly, dont take this the wrong way, it's an older Honda and a Sedan at that.

What is the point of having a car you like and are proud of if you keep it locked away in a garage. People forget that the main reason for a car is utility/mobility. The fact that it is a nice car and that you are proud of it is an added bonus. I would not recommend getting a beater...that's just stupid. You are paying/have paid for the car and its insurance...WHY NOT USE IT?! A beater wont do much for you in college, because when you want to go on a long trip you really wont want to/be able to; also, bumming rides is the biggest pain in the f*cking ass when you are in college. Just use your car and park it under a light or whatever for some added protection.

Own your CAR, don't let your car own YOU.

I've lived in Ithaca, NY since '99. It is a very harsh environment for a car, however, you will need a car there. All you need to do is make sure the car is waxed properly and that you wash the rock salt off the road when it snows. And it snows from November to April. Haha you'll be fine.

If you are buying a car in 3 yrs, there is no point in getting a beater. So with that new information, I wouldnt even stress that much. Just keep the detailer in your trunk and don't forget to lock up the car.

getting a beater is only stupid if you can't afford it, as I mentioned above - You should only get one if you have the money. Most people I know either don't live on campus, or if they do, they have a beater or they leave their cars at home. When it comes down to it, it depends on two things.

1. how safe/secure is your campus? check out the schools website & newspaper and see if there's a history of senseless vandalism. My school publishes a police notes section in their paper, which ALWAYS includes at least a couple reports of vandalism to cars.

2. how paranoid are you? If you constantly worry about your car and/or have to check up on it to make sure nothing has happened to it, you should get a beater to save yourself the worry.

Hey Hyde where are you?

Mr. Hyde makes fun out of me for having a beater car for my honda accord, a car that many folks would consider a beater car.

I guess you need to get some perspective. I love my car, but I will not, not drive it. All cars great and small are meant to be driven and driven a lot. further your talking about a 5th gen with value of less than $10 grand...a reliable beater would run you about $3 grand (read that as money a college student doesn't have)

I use a beater (my bro's car 96 LX) when my car is really clean and its raining out, but if my cars already dirty I just drive it.

The best you can do is try not to draw attention to your car, practice defensive parking (far away and not near other ding causing cars), and walk more around campus. I say keep your car clean, but don't go nuts cuz that's when people notice. Keep a low profile. Don't let everybody know that you have a system cuz college kids are all crooks....keep her stock too.

enjoy cornell.
