Default AEM Cam Gear and pulley kit question

Hello,

I just got my full catback (Greddy SP) and headers and aem short ram intake for my 95 accord I was wondering if I really need to get cam gears Since AEM says they are ideal for forced induction or turbo or very powerful engines... And i just have more free flowing mods. Also Is the AEM pulley kit worth it? And can I install it myself (Aem says they give detailed instructions but I havent seen them and was hoping maybe someone else has) The replies would be greatly appreciated.

If you get an adjustable cam gear, it:s best to find the correct degree change while on a dyno, then you can tune the engine well. I don:t think you:ll see noticeable results with just IHE, but usually, when an engine gets new cams, an adjustable cam gear can provide good gains.

if you going to go fro a cam gear make sure you get one that has 5-6 bolts not 3 like AEM. My friend installed one on his accord and had a lot of belt slippage. so he sold it and got a skunk2 cam gear. works like a charm.

Hey accordsleeper, you said don't get the pullies if you have a system. So if you upgrade your speakers and said added one 10inch sub, would you still not recommend the pullies?

you should be ok with that, but when you have all your accessories on and idling in traffic don't crank up your radio.

i think the new AEM gears are good, the ones without hex bolts. the tuners hate the ones with 5-6 hex bolts cause they are a bitch to deal with.

sorry i messed that up, the old style ones have allen wrench style bolts, those are the junk ones. you want the hex bolt style. the allen wrench style ones like on skunk2 can get stripped with repeated adjustments.

Hey thank you for the input AccordSleeper, but I am a bit confused about the pulleys... When you tell vtecaccord01 to not have radio up when all your accessories are on... why not... Shouldnt the aem belt be able to give more power?? Also I have 2 6x9 and 2 6x5 audiobahn midrange's powered by a 550 watt 4 channel amp.. so can i still install the alternator pulley? thanks again

no the AEM pulley slows down the alternator which makes it produce less power, instead it frees 1-2hp. at idle this when the alternator is turning the slowest so it's so it doesn't alot of power then. if you have your stereo cranked with subs, headlights, radar detector, apexi vafc, and maybe even your windsheild wipers that's a strain on the battery. if your stuck in some real heavy traffic, your car may just shutoff like mine did a few times.

i also don't like having slow power windows and dimming headlights at idle.
