You folks should understand something now - the way mfgs are moving toward multiplex data and integrated controls, the standard din sized aftermarket stereos are no longer a viable option. Take BMW for example..... ever since they redesigned the 3-series in 1999, it's basicaly imposable to use aftermarket heads. The tuner and amp are hidden in the trunk somewhere, and the head unit is just a control pannel. Not to mention, it's a chore to remove. Lexus, Infinity, and the 5 and 7 series BMW have had this type of non-replaceable stereo design for years, and since it's been no secret Honda wanted to aim at the high level cars for the new Accord, it was to be expected.

hehe...here's my aftermarket head pic in my 3. ofcourse, it only took 2 years before a kit was available. argh!!!! And yes, I had to replace all amps and speakers. (ok though, they sucked anyway)

But i do think it was a bad move for Honda to put in a non-conventional head unit in this car. As popular as the accord is, there are tons of audiophiles that want a better stereo that what honda has to offer.

Fastball: You seem to have a lot of knowledge but as far as luxury car's heading into that direction, I dont believe so. For instance, the new Lexus IS. U can get it with or without the navi. Without the navi, its possible and done every day. That goes for a lot of other lexus models. Mercedes goes that same route as well. Beemer, depending on the model but like vtecvanos shows, its possible.

I believe the Honda wants us to buy their pss of shit radio products (mp3, dvd, etc.), thats why they went this route. YEAH RIGHT. Like I really want to buy a $400 mp3 player because it has Honda on it. or, $1500 dvd player and its not even touch screen. Where there is a will (and a more pissed off 03 Accord owner), there will be a way

I didn't say I agreed with it. It's no secret Honda wanted to set the bar at high-scale imports with a sub-30k price tag. Well, they succeeded. And like it or not, that includes unique stereo designs. If you want to spend the money, you can have anything done. But that will entail extra labor for a custom job. Vtecvanos, how much did the labor alone cost you on your system if you didn't do it yourself?

Harness, data, and processors are completely different. They aren't interchangeable, since the auto climate control uses electric solenoids, motors, and mercury switches to adjust temp, fan speed, and airflow which the base HVAC does not have.

Yep, you can even get their 6-disk changer in conjunction with their mp3 player.

You can actually buy an Alpine CD changer that will work with the factory headunit. It will be much cheaper then buying one from Honda!
