Thanks for all the replies so far. You really think the Accord could match the Legacy's handling with good tires? I've gotten very used to the AWD, and I just wouldn't expect a FWD car to compare all that well. I guess I'll find out when I drive one.

I'm kind of wondering now if I'm thinking in the right range about prices. I haven't done a whole lot of research in this area, but what would you guys expect to pay for a 98-00 V6 EX sedan, with say 50-100k miles. Kind of a broad range there, but I'm just looking for ballparks, to see if this vehicle is really an option. Thanks.
I think it would surpass the Legacy's handling with top of the line tires. My Accord on Potenza S-03's in the dry handled better than an Audi A4 1.8T Quattro...I can't see your Subie handling any better than that.

I'd say you're looking at spending between $8,000 and $14,000 depending on year, miles and condition. The Accord has incredible resale value. What other cars are you considering? What's your price range?

8-14 sounds about like what I was thinking. I haven't really considered any other vehicles, I'm VERY picky, and I find very few vehicles appealing. It looks like if my car is totaled, I'll get 8-9k for it, roughly. I see it as an investment for many many years, so I'm willing to put up a little bit of extra money for it. I'm thinking 11k might be my ceiling, but it looks like this can probably get me exactly what I'm looking for if I shop around.

If you desire good handling, and are willing to put about $1K into the suspension, the Accord will out-handle most cars on the road.

Springs/shocks (or coilovers like TEIN), sways, strut bar.

I'm more than satisfied with the way my car handles.

Check my sig for suspension setup.

I definitely will. Hopefully I'll know better next week what's going to happen with the Subaru, then I can make a decision and (maybe) start shopping for an Accord. Thanks y'all, I'll let you know what happens

Hi, and welcome. Get the 98-02 (6th Gen) Coupe V6, they look really nice. I know many people had them and they don't have many problem with it. So Honda is a good place to start.

Default Color?

Can anyone recommend a good website that has basic information about these cars; specs equpiment, etc? I'm specifically interested right now in seeing what colors are available for the sedans. Initial (online) shopping has yielded a multitude of lightly colored vehicles (champagne, white, silver). Is this just my geographic location (AZ) or are darker EX sedans rare? I'm interested in finding a burgandy or sapphire blue one, are these available? Black or dark green would be acceptable as well, though I'd really like to nab one of my first two choices. Thanks again, guys

If you get the EXV6 like you said above, it'll have nicer stuff like the motor of course which is a 3.0 V6 rated at 200hp, auto climate control, homelink garage opener, steering mounted radio controls, and probably others I can't remember.

Oh, the wheels are 16" in coupe V6 and 15" in sedan V6 models. Tires are 205 for V6 models instead of the 195 for I4 models.

auto trannies have the aforementioned problem... 5 spds, i haven't heard anything really... i've put on 72xxx mi on mine and the only problem i've had is vandals and teenage girls rear-ending me...

my last car 4th gen accord put 252xxx mi on it and still ran incredibly perfect, engine wise.

Good luck with your purchase. My 1999 only has 37,000 but they've been trouble free for the most part.
