I still think there is no ECU on cars with carburetors!

The car has 168,000 miles on it. When I bought it, I changed the spark plugs, air filter, fuel filters, changed the oil and oil filter, put in two new thermostats (this came shortly after I bought it). I have noticed that the car does this strange thing when I get to 65 miles per hour and let off the gas just slightly it feels like it drops out of gear and when I push back on it feels like it goes back into gear it's done it since I had it.

I bought it with 145,000 miles on it. One thing I haven't changed is the distributor caps. I'm also going to investigate the throttle linkage tonight. Perhaps you are right there might not be an ECU on carborated,

My main concern is trying to fix whatever is causing it to diesel.

Once again thank you for all replies I will try the board that you referred me to as well.

Your timing is probably off. I have a 1986 Toyota Corolla that is carb'd and is also an AT & it used to do the same thing. Got new plugs & put the timing back where it was supposed to be (it was retarded a little) and it works just fine now. Also check your idle speed. If your idle speed is too high it will cause it to diesel as well.

I already checked the idle time I turned it in both directions it had no effect on the high Idle. I have been leaning towards the timing as well Later on tonight I will give it a try along with the throttle linkage.
