Default Simple fix for simple security problem (windows)?

Greetings all,

Twice in the past few months my 97 Accord has been broken into through the drivers side window. The first time they took my stereo, the second time they took my airbags.

Q: Both times it seems they got in very easily by prying the glass away from the door and tripping the power locks. It seems that a small metal guard going aroudn the window would prevent anyone from doing this. Anyone know if such a guard is available or of there is some simple fix for this problem?

Do you have an alarm? It wont stop them, but it would scare them a little, if they strike back.

i know some people have unpluged their power lock switch. if you have a 2dr, its not that inconveinent. my accord has an alarm anyway, so it lock when you start driving, and unlocks when u shut off the car

Not a bad idea. I have a 4d but I could stick a switch somewhere else so I could still get to it to pop the doors. Maybe a little sticker too: "power lock disabled, so don't bother effing up my window liner".

Thanks for the tip.

Thats strange, the new accords if the alarm is on and the door unlocks without key alarm goes off...

Like I left my windows down, and armed my alarm. Reached in and poped trunk, alarm went off... Did all again, but unlocked doors instead of trunk and alarm went of. I didnt even open the door just unlocked it...

Maybe you can find out how they do it on the 03 accords and do the same. Or just get a motion sensor like my old alpine alarm had so if someone is to close to the car it chirps, and if they stay it goes all the way off...

That's a feature that was first introduced in the anti-theft systems of mid-90's Acura's and has since been integrated into the Accord's.

The 1997 Accord has no such system. I think a similar anti-theft was introduced in the 6th gen Accord. Other manufactures have even gone as far as to disable the power door lock switches alltogether once the anti-theft system is engaged.

Anyhow about the problem at hand. I would definately consider an aftermarket alarm such as a Viper or Clifford. Window tints would also help, If they can't see in it adds an element of uncertianty. Most theives look for the easiest available targets. Discouraging them is key as they will just go look for something easier.

Personally my car is tinted down 4% Madico Onyx Flat Black on all windows and 28% Madico Onyx Flat Black down the entire windshield. My security is provdied by a simple Viper 500+ with all entry points protected, back-up battery siren, horn circut, and a glass breakage sensor. I don't have a shock sensor because I don't care for the flase alarms plus my car needs body work and has no rims so I'm really not to worried about the exterior. I know if my alarm goes off someone is either in my car or just broken a window so I'm coming out armed and ready.

After my car gets painted and the rest of all my JDM stuff is on I'll install my shock sensor. But for now I'm ok.

Getting your stuff stolen sucks. Getting an alarm with a visible deterant will help allot. Always park you car in ver publicly visable places, under bright lights at night, and etc.

Hope everything works out.

Having previous truck parked under lights didnt help, lol I think it made it easyer for them to steal my sounds...

Then 2 weeks latter they got my moms car radio, and she parks by like 4 lights and then 3 flood lights aiming at her car, its like daylight... She also had an alarm, dont know which one but some how they disabled it and just opened her door... (she had a neon 2 door.) so its easy to get in them without breaking a window or lock... Just comes to show that if they want it bad enough NOTHING will stop them, alarm or lights.

Now that I got my 03 accord I am trying to find a way to had shock sensor as well as maybe a motion one cuz I dont wana get my shi* fuc*ed with...

I just wish you could electrify the car. Just ****ing shock people if the remote wasn't used to unlock the doors...period. Put shocks in the seats and on the dash. Come back to roasted crook.

you know what you need to get is a fat ass bat and that clifford alarm system with the little pager thing it tells you exactly where these bastards are messing with your car (doors, window, trunk, hood for example) then you set that at a high pager beep in your house but outside set it silent and when you hear the alarm you grab your bat run outside (dont matter if your nekkid) and start swinging ask questions later. thats my plans for the future. i already cary my bat in the car (people are grimmey around here) now i will have one in the car and one in my house. the alarm is not all that expensive but you have to let them know you dont want that car starter junk cuz that makes it really expensive (im saying this beacause im guessing you have a 5-speed if you dont then you probably want a car starter and that saddens me.
